La Montina Franciacorta is made from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Nero, sourced from vines aged between 6 and 25 years. After soft crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, followed by at least 26 months on lees to develop complexity. It undergoes a minimum of two months of bottle ageing before release, resulting in a refined, well-balanced Franciacorta. This elegant fizz will rival lots of top Champagne so is a steal at the price. Notes of patisserie and white peach its great with rich oilfy fish or white meats or just as an aperitif.
Notes on the producer
La Montina is a historic Franciacorta estate in Monticelli Brusati, benefiting from a unique microclimate influenced by Lago d’Iseo. Originally owned by the Montini family in 1620, it was revived in 1987 by the Bozza brothers. The estate includes the 17th-century Villa Baiana, now home to the Remo Bianco Museum of Contemporary Art.
A founding member of the Consorzio Franciacorta, La Montina follows strict Metodo Classico regulations, ensuring the highest quality. Grapes are hand-harvested, and secondary fermentation occurs naturally in the bottle, with minimum ageing of 18 months for non-vintage, 30 months for vintage, and 60 months for Riserva. The 1992 Zonation Study further refined Franciacorta’s vineyard practices, reinforcing the region’s reputation for world-class sparkling wines. La Montina remains dedicated to tradition, sustainability, and meticulous winemaking.
