100% Barbera, vinified in white, from 10-year-old vines on limey clay soil at 350m altitude with north/northwest exposure. This pale yellow wine offers herbal, mineral, and lemony notes with floral, spicy, and appley nuances. Bright, clean, and grippy, it has a red wine-like tannic structure and a long, mouthwatering finish. Perfect with freshwater fish like trout or pike, or smoked eel. A unique choice for fans of Fiano, Falanghina, or Timorasso
Notes on the producer
Castello di Cigognola, located in the D.O.C. Oltrepò Pavese region, is a historic winery deeply connected to its 15th-century roots. Its 28 hectares of vineyards, nestled around a 12th-century castle recognized by FAI, are dedicated to cultivating Barbera, Pinot Nero, and Nebbiolo using sustainable, low-impact methods. At 350 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional microclimate with mild winters, low rainfall, and significant diurnal temperature variation, enhancing the vines' expression.
Under the guidance of oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, the estate produces wines of remarkable structure and complexity, showcasing the unique terroir of the region. The combination of meticulous vineyard practices, including guyot training, natural soil management, and grape thinning, ensures wines of exceptional quality. Castello di Cigognola consistently earns accolades from top wine guides for its elegant and expressive wines.
