The Ciello Rosso is classic Nero d’Avola with freshness and flavours of dark almost roasted fruits – think black cherries and red and dark plums. There’s some liquorice and then the finish hints at coffee and bitter chocolate. The Ciello Rosso it is not fined or filtered and can appear cloudy – please do not be alarmed, it’s still a stunner to enjoy!
Notes on the producer
The Ciello Winery was founded in Marsala in 1860 by Don Diego Rallo, although today the estate is run by the Vesco family who took over in 1996. There are 100 organic hectares in total, all of which are in the DOCG of Alcamo, while the cellars are situated in an impressive 19th century building on Marsala's seafront. The company produces perhaps the best-known DOC wines of the region from local indigenous grapes including Nero d'Avola and Catarratto
