One of Domaine Tempier's single parcel cuvees La Migoua consists of scattered parcels circled by wild scrubland. An extraordinary geological accident formed very complex soil.Clusters are hand-selected in the vineyard and in the cellar; de-stemmed, crushed and put into concrete vats for 3 or 4 weeks to ferment thanks to indigenous yeasts. Aged in large oak casks for 18 months minimum before bottling.

Notes on the producer

Tempier has stood as a preeminent domaine of Provence for decades. Its wines have put the small appellation of Bandol on the fine wine map, and are testament to the fact there is much more to Provence’s vinous offering than rosé to enjoy. Talented winemaker Daniel Ravier makes superb wines for the Peyraud family from Mourvèdre, with some Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault. Their single vineyard wines are some of the greatest expressions of terroir in the fine wine canon, and have decades-long ageing potential. The estate enjoys a cult-like following, particularly in the US.

Traditional vinification using indigenous yeasts, the wines are aged in a variety of different sized oak (25 to 75hl) for between 18 and 20 months. These are wines which are capable of long ageing, but even young they have a finesse of fruit and earthy flavour, coupled with fine-grained tannins, which lift them above the generality of Provençal reds.
