Five Champagne Growers You Need To Know
A silent revolution has been brewing in champagne for the last few decades. The region is so densely populated and expensive to buy land in, it's rare to see producers who both grow grapes and make wine. But the tides are changing with more and more producers pushing to do this.
Here is our list of well established or up and coming makers that you need to keep your eyes on.
Laherte Freres, Ultradition, NV
Laherte Frères Ultradition is a beautifully crafted Champagne from the esteemed Laherte Frères estate, a family-run grower-producer based in the Vallée de la Marne. Established in 1889, Laherte Frères is known for its biodynamic and organic farming practices, emphasizing terroir-driven wines with precision and depth.
Primarily Meunier, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the Ultradition comes from old-vine parcels and undergoes indigenous yeast fermentation, with partial oak aging for added complexity. It offers vibrant notes of orchard fruits, citrus zest, toasted almonds, and brioche, with a fine mousse and mineral backbone.
Elegant and versatile, it reflects Laherte Frères' philosophy—respect for the land, minimal intervention, and pure Champagne expression.
Pascal Agrapart, Les 7 Crus, NV
Pascal Agrapart is a highly respected grower-producer in Champagne, renowned for his meticulous vineyard work and dedication to expressing terroir. Based in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Agrapart specializes in Chardonnay-driven Champagnes, crafting wines with an incredible sense of terroir.
Les 7 Crus is a cuvée that showcases fruit sourced from seven different villages across the Côte des Blancs. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it strikes a balance between freshness, minerality, and richness. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on the lees, this Champagne reflects Agrapart’s commitment to low-dosage, precise winemaking. Expect bright citrus, green apple, and brioche notes, with a chalky minerality and a lively, elegant finish. A fantastic introduction to the house’s style, Les 7 Crus offers both approachability and depth, making it an excellent choice for both casual enjoyment and more refined pairings.
Bereche Et Fils, Brut Reserve, NV
Bérêche et Fils, a family-run Champagne house since 1847, crafts terroir-driven wines with traditional methods and low intervention. Led by Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche, they farm organically, use barrel fermentation, natural yeasts, and extended lees aging for depth, elegance, and complexity.
Bérêche et Fils Brut Réserve is a beautifully balanced, grower Champagne that reflects the house’s meticulous craftsmanship. A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier sourced from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, this wine is vinified partly in oak, giving it richness and texture. The nose reveals notes of crisp apple, brioche, citrus zest, and toasted almonds, while the palate is vibrant and precise, with a fine mousse and a long, mineral-driven finish. This cuvée is an excellent representation of Bérêche’s commitment to purity, authenticity, and terroir expression.
Benoît Lahaye, Bouzy Grand Cru Brut Nature, NV
Benoît Lahaye is a renowned grower-producer from the village of Bouzy, a Grand Cru terroir in the Montagne de Reims, Champagne. A dedicated practitioner of biodynamic viticulture, Lahaye emphasizes organic farming, minimal intervention, and respect for the land to create expressive, terroir-driven Champagnes. His vineyards are primarily planted with Pinot Noir, the signature grape of Bouzy, producing wines with depth, structure, and vibrancy.
The Bouzy Grand Cru 'Brut Nature' NV embodies his philosophy—mainly Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay, spontaneously fermented and aged in oak. Bottled without dosage, it highlights Bouzy’s chalky soils.
Expect a taut, mineral-driven Champagne with crisp red berries, citrus zest, toasted almonds, and spice. With a long, dry finish, it pairs beautifully with seafood, oysters, and fine cheeses.
Vouette Et Sorbee, Fidele, 2020
Bertrand Gautherot is a passionate, straight-talking grower devoted to his vines. He began in 1986, tending his family’s vineyards in Buxières-Sur-Arce on Jurassic limestone slopes, initially selling grapes to big houses. But his deep connection to the land and desire for sustainable farming led him to embrace biodynamics. Today, he remains a pioneer in the Côte des Bar, inspiring a new generation of growers.
Made from only Pinot Noir, farmed biodynamically on limestone soils, it’s an expressive, terroir-driven Champagne. The wine shows vibrant notes of wild red berries, crisp orchard fruit, chalky minerality, and a touch of savoury spice, balanced by fine acidity. Elegant yet full of character, it's a true reflection of natural winemaking and the singular terroir of Buxières-sur-Arce.
